I've Become One of 'Those' Parents

Heys guys,

Let me just jump right into it...

Before I had a child I would see parents with their 'poor little child' on what I called a "dog lead" and in all honestly, I used to silently judge them. Why can't they just hold their hand? Why are they pulling so tight? Why don't they train their child road safety? and many more questions used to go through my mind.

Well well well... Yesterday, as I stood in ASDA looking at backpacks and trying a few on, all my previous questions were answered. I finally understood why parents buy these. My 21 month old can count to and back from 20, he can sing all the nursery rhymes (complete with dance moves) and he has a pretty good understanding of the world around him; he is a smart boy. However, he is still a 21 month old and on an odd occasion, he might see something fascinating across the road and run towards it, you just never know and I'm not willing to take that risk.

I felt so weird at first holding the 'lead' on our way back home but it was proved I made the right choice when my son was running and almost hit a lamp-post but guess who and what saved him? Yep, you guessed it, my trusty "dog lead" (and my reflexes). To be honest I think it's all about how you hold it, I put mine around my wrist and hold my sons hand; I just use it as insurance in case he runs off but I'm loving it.

So yes, I've become one of 'those' parents and I wouldn't have it any other way.
