Hey guys,
This week I attended two classes hosted by Leap (Lambeth Early Action Partnership) and I have to say I’m well impressed.
The first class was a keepsake making session which gave parents a chance to discuss how services could be improved for local families in the area and I’m proud to say I took part. It was at our local Children’s Centre and all parents attending were able to use the crèche facilities which kept the little ones busy. I met some lovely parents and we spoke freely about what we’d like to see in our area in terms of support and welfare; during the discussion we were each given a wooden box to decorate which was quite therapeutic. We wrote our personal goals and wishes on pieces of paper to place inside our boxes which I thought was a really nice touch.
The second class was a Family Cookery Workshop. I only expected to learn how to make a few meals but we also had the opportunity to meet a Nutritionist and cook with her; how great is that?

When we entered the room there was a table filled with nutritional goodness. We were given a recipe book and a load of notes on how to cook healthy meals for our families.

We made vegan cookies for our children and Mekhi really liked them, he doesn’t usually like grainy foods so I’m happy I’ve finally found a healthy alternative to cookies.
We also made some Shakshuka although I opted for the vegan version and I put mine on top of garlic flat bread; it was delicious.
At the end of the workshop, I received a goody bag with food and loads more recipes to try at home.

I've learned so much through these LEAP sessions, they both exceeded my expectations! It’s nice to know that there is support in for families locally, it’s imperative that all of our voices are heard. We were from different cultures, had different beliefs and backgrounds but it's lovely that we were all able to come together and do something positive. I look forward to LEAP's future workshops and I encourage others to get involved.
Thank you LEAP!
